About AIM

The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has teamed up with the Society for the Care of Neurological Patients in launching the first Amman International Marathon (AIM) on October 17, 2009. This world-class sporting event in the heart of Amman coincided with the 100th year anniversary of founding the modern day Amman Municipality, and since then it began an annual tradition akin to other international marathons in the Middle East and beyond. This sporting tradition will attract professional and non-professional runners worldwide, and help showcase the scenic features of the Jordanian capital.

The main objectives of AIM are to promote athleticism, particularly among youth, to encourage tourism to Jordan, and to promote athletic cooperation across countries of the Middle East and the world. Promoting healthy lifestyles among all members of society, and a spirit of volunteerism are other key objectives of AIM.

AIM is an international event registered with the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF), and is expected to be one of the most recognized international marathons held in the Middle East and the neighboring countries. The Samsung Amman International Marathon will be a major international sporting event attracting runners worldwide and demonstrating the unique features of the Jordanian capital, adding Amman as a sporting capital to the international arena.

The aspiration of AIM stretches further than the actual marathon, aiming to promote athleticism, healthy lifestyle and athletic cooperation across the Middle East and the world, as well as to instill volunteering among resident s across the kingdom.
